We run a range of summer and winter courses designed to meet your requirements.
These courses are of particular interest to clubs who wish to fill gaps
in knowledge or give a basic grounding
to new members. The Scottish Winter Courses provide a stepping-stone
for summer mountaineers who wish to branch out into winter conditions
and for winter mountaineers into winter climbing.
Winter
Mountaineering and Climbing
1. Winter Mountaineering Long Weekend (3 days)
Contents: A condensed introduction to winter mountaineering in Scotland.
You will be introduced to movement in Scottish terrain and the use of
ice axe and crampons to enable you to negotiate snowy, icy conditions
and steeper terrain. Designed and ideal for those with limited holidays
or folk who wish to pick up the basics and go on to explore for themselves.
Venue: Scotland – Cairngorm or Nevis ranges
Ratio: 1:4
Duration: 3 days
Price: £200 Stg (Nonresidential, but recommended options are provided.)
Dates: 09-11 March 2012
2. Winter Mountaineering Week (5 days)
Contents: A full-on Scottish winter mountaineering experience taking
on some of the Scottish classics. As above you will be introduced to
movement in Scottish terrain and the use of ice axe and crampons. The
extra two days will help consolidate and develop skills learned, whilst
allowing for time to climb more peaks.
Venue: Scotland – Cairngorm or Nevis ranges

3. Winter Mountain Skills Long Weekend (3
days)
Contents: A packed winter-skills course focussing on winter navigation,
hazard avoidance, route choice, interpreting weather forecasts and conditions,
survival skills, and use of ice axe and crampons and other equipment.
Venue: Scotland Cairngorm or Nevis ranges
Ratio: 1:4

5. Description: Guided walks
Contents: Hire an experienced guide for the day and explore the Irish
mountains.
Ratio: 1:10
Duration: 1 or 2 days
